Life drawing

These are some of my life drawings, we were trying to draw harsh lighting on the body. One with pencil and other in charcoal.

I really enjoy life drawing, because I think it’s something important artists should learn. Animator Richard Williams says that if a artists drawing fundamentals are strong, then they have the versatility to go in all different directions. He is passionate about this and that it upsets him that art students don’t really learn it that much anymore and can’t stress enough how important it is, especially to animation. What we want to achieve isn’t realism, but believability!  I also like it because it’s always been one of the only things I’ve ever been good at and that I still have a lot to learn still 🙂 It’s tiring to do all day and I’d rather draw sitting with the board on my lap, but I still enjoy it a lot.

The only down side is that we only get two lessons this year, and I don’t think we will be getting anymore now, which is a really big shame, as I think it could help me a lot with getting more movement and accuracy in my work – even when I’m trying to stylise more. Our life drawing tutor, Tessa, is really encouraging and helpful, she is also really nice as well, which helps those who find the lessons difficult.

Speed drawing/dating

An activity we did on the last day of term

IMG_0569.JPG

At first I really wasn’t looking forward to the whole speed dating activity we were told was going to be happening today, but it wasn’t half as bad as what I had thought it was going to be. It was still nerve wracking talking and interacting with people, but I like drawing portraits so it made it a lot more enjoyable. This is the first time drawing portraits of actual people in my simple sketchy way of drawing. I saw that I could still get a range of different facial features.

They’re all drawn on posted notes with pencil and all took roughly two minutes (it was meant to be just 1 minute each for the two of us to draw the other, but I didn’t want to sit in silence doing nothing, so I would continue drawing)

I hope you all like them 🙂

RISO Printing

Products from a RISO Printing workshop

(The sketches/thumbnails of potential drawings and the final booklet- Georges work on the left and mine on the right)

First time ever experiencing riso printing, whilst the lesson and the environment on the day was loud and stressful, the riso printing itself was actually a really nice process with some good outcomes and was very interesting. The riso printing is something I would definitely consider doing again and develop further in future projects. It would have been nice to done more, but time was against us, I think my little drawing of a fox could have looked nice. For next time I have to remember to make my lines and drawings darker and more tonal for a better result, as the piece here was too faint and didn’t come out that well, but I liked the design and the amount of detail there.

Made from a mark

(Collage based on one of our drawings – only using basic shapes and then using the collage character in a drawing)

A workshop where we did a lot of quick drawing to try and draw using different techniques.

I enjoyed the workshop, as we got to do a lot of portraits and that I do a lot of portraits, even though I had to draw a self-portrait of myself. I didn’t really learn anything new from it. We had to do a collage for the last part, whilst it turned out fairly okay, I still don’t like making collages.

Journal of a collector

We were given the brief of making and showing a collection of things. I decided to go with a collection of memories and moments in the form of booklets.

DSC03770.JPG

I made two final pieces – one of general memories and one as a sort of travel diary. I generally like how they have turned out, I should have planned the cover of ‘photo memories’ better so the crease wouldn’t have spoilt it, but it does sort of make it look like and old photo album. I was finding it a little difficult to find things to add to them, as I am a private person and there were things I would rather not share with others but if it where a private project for myself I could have added more items to each book.

Whilst I’m happy with the work, I think they could have been better, because I couldn’t decide on one, I had to split my time between the two of them. If I where to do it again, for the ‘Photo Memories’ I would have done more photos and re-make some photos, and for ‘Barcelona – Travel diary’ I would have liked to add more things into it and re-draw some of the drawings – maybe making the booklet a bigger size would have helped and that I am going to make similar travel diaries for other and future trips for myself.

5 frame narrative

5 Frame narrative image for uni – vaguely inspired by Hunters in the snow by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. I added a 6th to make it into a book to test how it looks ^^
I really enjoyed doing this short project
The thumbnail sketches – they began out so clearly XD
Finished work + book test

I hope you all like it 🙂

Characters and work belong to me 🙂

Dance with me – animation

Dance with me.gif

You know maybe one day I will make a nice proper animation

Yeah this was an impromptu little animation so I had no real idea of where I was going with this, I was just in the mood for animating and didn’t have anything else going on ^^; There are some inconsistency problems, but I’m slowly getting better at keeping it constant. I’m sorry if the text is going too quickly, again it was something I was just playing around with to give them a voice 🙂 Also a thanks to Kasey Hall for giving me some feedback 😀

So it’s a little animation of my oc’s Dai and Mia as little kids just interacting and stuff, I would like to make more animations and make them more of a regular thing but I have other things to do most of the time ^^;

Art(animation) and characters belong to me

I hope you all like them 😀

I’ll be posting uni work again soon 🙂

Self-Portrait

Self portrait.png

Needed a new ID (Doing a self-portrait is becoming a yearly thing XD – *looks at past years self-portraits and screams silently into the void*)

Maybe for next years ID I’ll make something more fun or meaningful ^^;

I bought Clip Studio Paint when it was sale before Christmas but only recently got a chance to download it, and this is the first thing I’ve drawn on it. So far so good, I’ll keep working with it to see what more I can do it, but I still like Paint tool sai 😀 and I’ll keep using it for certain stuff ^^

(Also as a note – this is about as accurately as I am willingly going to draw myself, not that I’m unable to but I’d rather not)

I hope you all like it 😀

Final Book

DSC02899.JPG

It’s done, it’s finally done! I’m quite happy how it’s turned out, the binding and the print out isn’t perfect and that I should improve on next time, but I like it, it was the push I needed to try and make a comic and it gave me the chance to work on a project, and getting a prologue done. I’m still not a 100% sure of it though, I don’t think I’ll post the full comic pages online, but it was a nice thing to work on.

Art and work belongs to me.
